The Gunner

Article text
Recently, the Digital Photography School finished a series of black and white assignments with Film Noir. Film noir is typically associated with movies like The Maltese Falcon, or more recently, Sin City, and tends to feature low key black and white. This was a difficult assignment, but the winners really pulled out all the stops and showed that they understood not only the look of the assignment, but the stories used to create the look. On of the winner was Photoboothguy’s man with a gun. This shot used flashes really well to create the deep shadows and textures associated with the film noir look. This shot really exemplified the whole feeling of film noir. It was gritty, grainy, and menacing, and the shadow over the shooter’s face really gave it a sense of mystery.
